Soil: The root of the future

July 7 – International Soil Conservation Day

At The Community Forests, we understand that conserving soil is the first step toward restoring ecosystems and building climate solutions from the ground up. Our projects protect and nurture the very foundation of life: soil as a living organism.

Soil: more than a resource, a web of life

Healthy soils store carbon, retain water, support crops, host millions of microorganisms, and allow forests to breathe. But when soil is degraded, the impacts are widespread: biodiversity loss, food insecurity, forced migration, and rising emissions.

That’s why at The Community Forests, we work hand in hand with local communities to conserve soil as a cornerstone of our REDD+ projects—where ecological restoration, community governance, and the generation of verified carbon credits come together.

Through initiatives like those led by Carbo Sostenible, we develop nature-based solutions that integrate traditional soil management practices, agroforestry, and participatory conservation.

And through strategic partnerships with organizations such as Yauto and Terra Commodities, we strengthen local capacities to protect soil, reduce deforestation, and generate shared environmental and social benefits.

Healthy soils, resilient communities

Soil regeneration also means social regeneration. In every project, we prioritize a long-term vision that respects local cultures, promotes food security, and ensures that climate solutions are not imposed from the outside, but emerge from within—guided by autonomy and shared responsibility.

Today, on International Soil Conservation Day, we reaffirm our commitment to inclusive climate action.
